david-cookTriple platinum recording artist, David Cook, hails from the Kansas City area. David was the 2008 American Idol Winner and brings smiles to many through his music and his very own “David Cook Shadow Buddies.”

David became involved with Shadow Buddies in December of 2008, when he and Tony Gonzalez (former tight-end for the Kansas City Chiefs) teamed up with the Shadow Buddies Foundation to brighten the holidays of some very special children at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. David’s family and the Postlethwaits are long time friends and they strongly support the Shadow Buddy charity and what they do for sick children and their families.

Born in Houston, David was raised in Blue Springs, Missouri. He began singing in the second grade and performed in many school musical productions. He excelled at sports, but found that music was his real passion. At the age of 15, he formed his first band, Axium. During his senior year of college at Central Missouri State, David recorded a solo CD called Analog Heart, which sold well regionally. After graduation, David decided to move to Tulsa, Oklahoma and see which way his heart led him, music or using his degree as a graphic designer. While working on his second album, his younger brother Andrew convinced David to accompany him to Omaha for the American Idol auditions. From there, the rest is history.

After being declared the winner on American Idol by a record-breaking 56 percent of the nearly 100 million votes cast, David rewrote chart history. Within one week of winning, eleven of his songs debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart-the highest number of new entries in a single week by an artist since the Beatles in 1964. In July 2008, David and his fellow Idol contestants began their 40+ U.S. tour. While on tour, David worked on writing and recording songs for his self titled album, David Cook, which was released November 18, 2008 and went platinum. David and his band began a tour of their own in February, 2009 and are close to winding it down. The sweat process begins again of writing and recording for the next album.
